AI visibility · Generative & Answer Engine Optimization

Be the name AI actually recommends.

AI visibility — also called generative engine optimization (GEO) or answer engine optimization (AEO) — is whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews name your firm when a buyer asks who to use. It's the new front door, and most NZ firms don't even know their score. We test it, score it, then build the entity and content signals that make you the cited answer instead of the one the model skips.

Free scorecard, no card required. Paid options from $190 if you want the full fix list. No 12-month lock-ins.

Not in the running

ChatGPT and Perplexity both named a competitor first.

Why SEO alone won't get you cited

Buyers ask once now, and AI answers instead of handing back ten links.

01

One name, not a page of results

ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews hand back a short answer, often a single recommendation. If you're not in it, the buyer never learns you exist.

02

A page-one Google ranking doesn't carry over

Ranking well on Google doesn't mean an AI model will cite you. These engines read the web by entities, structure and trusted mentions, not just keywords and backlinks.

03

Whoever gets cited first tends to stay cited

Models lean on the sources they already trust. Firms building AI visibility now are the ones still being named once every competitor catches on.

AI visibility by industry

The buyer prompts change by industry. The discipline doesn't.

We build AI visibility for any industry. Where we go deep is New Zealand financial services, with the buyer prompts and entity signals already mapped. It's strongest paired with a lead-gen system you own and search engine marketing bringing the traffic in, and marketing automation to follow up once someone finds you. What the terms actually mean

Three names, one discipline — and it isn't SEO.

GEO, AEO and 'AI visibility' all point at the same target: does an AI engine name you, unprompted, when a buyer asks?

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

The technical term for structuring your entity, content and signals so generative AI — ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity — surfaces and cites you when it writes an answer.

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)

The earlier, adjacent term, born from voice search and featured snippets: optimising to be the direct answer rather than a ranked link. Same target as GEO, older name.

AI visibility

Our plain-English umbrella for both. It's the practical, measurable version: a score for how often you get named across the engines your buyers actually use.

Not the same game as SEO

SEO earns a spot on a page of links. AI visibility earns the actual sentence a model reads back to the buyer. Overlapping signals, different target, different tactics.

How we build AI visibility

Scored, built, then held.

STEP 01

Free visibility scorecard

We test the real prompts your buyers ask across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI, and score whether you're named, mentioned or invisible.

STEP 02

Entity & schema build sprint

We structure your site, profiles and content — entities, schema, trusted mentions — so the engines can read who you are and trust it enough to cite you.

STEP 03

Monthly re-scoring, so it holds

AI visibility isn't a one-off fix. We re-score monthly and reinforce, so you stay the cited answer as the rest of your market wakes up to this.

Questions

The honest answers.

Is AI visibility just SEO with a new name?

No. SEO optimises to rank in a list of links. AI visibility — generative engine optimization (GEO) or answer engine optimization (AEO) — optimises to be the named answer when there's no list, only a recommendation. The signals overlap (structure, authority, trusted mentions) but the target is different, and a page-one Google ranking doesn't automatically get you cited.

What's the difference between GEO, AEO and 'AI visibility'?

Same discipline, different names. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the term for optimising to be cited by generative AI (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews). Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the earlier, adjacent term from voice search and featured snippets. "AI visibility" is the plain-English version we use with clients — it just means: does AI name you when a buyer asks?

How is this different to your Cited product?

This page is the category — why AI visibility matters and what GEO/AEO actually mean. Cited is how we build it: a scored report across every major engine, then an entity, schema and content build sprint so you become the cited answer, with monthly re-scoring to prove it's holding.

How much does it cost?

A visibility scorecard is free. The ChatGPT Teardown starts at $190, the Full Report is $395, and the build sprint that actually fixes it runs from $1,500 + $1.5k/mo, no 12-month lock-ins.
